I've got mixed feelings about this race. On one hand I am very discouraged because going into the race given the elevation profile and where I thought my current fitness level was I thought for sure I would be able to at the very least go under 1:09.  But, on the other hand I know that the course was a little long and everyone I talked to said they thought the course was a lot harder than then they thought it was going to be.  I felt the same way.  I was very surprised at the difficulty of the course.  I was also thrilled to take 4th place given the level of competition.  Even if I had the race I was hoping to have I don't think I would have been able to place any higher than 4th the three that beat me were just better than me it's as plain and simple as that.  I went a little harder and faster than I probably should have gone on some of those downhill miles from miles 3-5.  It was nice to have company for the first 6 miles or so and then it got incredibly lonely for the rest of the race.  Here are my mile splits based off of the mile markers on the course:  5:19, 5:38, 4:56, 5:07, 4:21 (Not sure why this one was so far off I know I didn't drop a 4:21 mile on the 5th mile though.), 11:20 (next 2 miles, I missed the mile marker), 5:50, 5:28, 5:34, 5:15, 5:35, 5:23, :37 for the last .1.   Cooled down 4 miles with Ben, Mike, Scott, and Justin.  It was fun to see a lot of you bloggers at the race.  Many had great races!

Nice race Steve against a deep field. Course looked tough. Keep going strong for Ogden.

Great race, Steve! Fun running with you for awhile.

Nice run Steve! From all your workouts and races it looks like you are on a good path to some even faster times.

Nice race Steve! 4th in that field is impressive. I was wondering who that was way out in the distance with the red shirt. One of these days we need a formal introduction.

@Fritz Thanks I would love to formally meet you someday. I have been following you for years and have been very impressed with how you just keep coming back and winning races despite injuries and such!

@Jace I hope I can get faster. I look forward to racing against you again. I think it has been 4 years since we raced each other and both been in good shape. I know we raced last year in the striders 1/2 but you were in a lot better shape than I was then. Keep up the great work yourself and maybe we can push each other to a real fast marathon.

@Matt It was good running with you for a while too. Hopefully I'll see you at some more races this year. I don't know you very well but I can tell you are a fierce competitor and it was unfortunate you had the g.i. issues.

@Riley Thanks. I know that it is a long process and it may take a couple of years even before I can get to the level that you are at. Thanks for being so supportive to everybody even during this rough time. I know it can be extremely frustrating being injured. I had the same deal happen a few years ago when I was registered and planning on running Boston and then had a bad knee injury and was unable to run it. That was the year that everyone ran really fast because they had a tail wind the whole race. I think if you continue to stay involved with the sport and continue to support everyone it is going to help you get back as soon as it is feasible.

Very nice Shep. You are in a good place for Ogden. Both today and Turkey Point Half are great tough courses for tune ups. MIH
