Ran over to the park on my normal route so it was about 6 miles then got my number and timing chip.  Then ran the course then added on another couple miles then did strides.

Ran the race solo from the gun to the finish.  I was trying to push it as hard as I could because this was my only hard workout this week.  I didn't push as hard in the 3rd miles as I would have liked to.  I let myself slack off because I had a big lead.  I kind of wish Ben would have shown up to push me through that last mile.  2nd place was some hot shot high school kid that I later found out was Fremont Highs top guy.  The first thing he said to me after finishing was I guess I shouldn't have run 6.5 miles before the race.  I told him I had run 11.5.  Despite me telling him good race multiple times, he never did tell me good race.  Kids like that are fun to beat!  Traci Fife was also in the race he is a very solid masters runner.  He won STG twice and was giving me tips on our cool down.  I did 2.5 miles of cool down with him and the high school kid.  Splits today were 4:58, 5:00, 5:11, :44.

The best part of the morning was running the kids race with Mitchell and then running back and finishing with Payson and Alisha.  The kids race was just barely under 1/2 mile (I had .47)  Mitchell ran it in 4:37.  He never stopped to walk.  It is great to see both his and Payson's determination!

Steve,

I wish wouldve come too! That kid is Kaden Winter's I used to coach him last year. He is Fremont's 2nd guy and he said that he was going to run sub 15:10. The kid thinks he is a hot shot and is not coachable. I am glad you put a spanking on him! He needs it!

Note to self: always congratulate the runners who beat you, especially when they congratulate you.

I am reminded of Bill Bowerman, who said his main job was to take a 2x4 to kids heads so he could crack it open and put something in there.

Nice race, Steve! And good workout and miles for the day. I agree, there are not many things more fun than beating runners like that. Keeps you coming back for more :) Nicely done.
