Got up early and did 5 easy miles from my house then drove down to Murray warmed up 2 more miles did some strides then ran the Murray Fund Days 5k, then did a 2 mile cool down.

Teran Jameson shot out to the lead early in the race followed by a group of about 5 or 6 of us.  I sat in the group for the first 1/2 mile then I felt everyone slowing down so I just kept going and went to the lead.  By the turnaround point (a little over a mile into the race) Teran and I had broken off from the rest of the pack.  Teran sat on me for the next 1/2 mile or so and then through in a big surge between around 1.75 miles in as he passed me.  I could tell the surge was meant just to make a statement as he went by me because after just a few seconds of increased speed he settled down into about the same pace we had been running.  He had about 10 meter gap on me which I closed to about a 5 meter gap with about 1/2 mile to go but then I looked back and saw that Jason Holt and Nathan Hornock were far enough back that I could just coast in for a 2nd place finish and I made a concious decision not to fight and try and get 1st but to coast in for 2nd.  I am disappointed with myself for not fighting.  I'm not sure if I could have won or not, but I definitely could have made it a better race.  I was pleased that I was able to run such a fast 5k (it was a little short)  without putting myself into too much pain.  Splits were:  4:55 (mostly uphill), 4:45 (mostly downhill), 4:54 (both up and down), and :30.

I hadn't heard anything about Teran Jameson for a while but the guy is still a heckuva runner!

Hey Steve, Nate Hornok's older, slower brother here. I'm Jesse. I remember seeing your state cross high school meet. You ran a great race catching the guy who went out too quick and putting on a front-running show. Hard to believe that was 10 years ago, eh?

True about Teren, he just knows how to get up for a good race. I have the feeling when he's challengeable, i.e. beatable, he might just not show up. (Actually, I think better of him than that, but it seems locally that only one guy was consistently beating him and that was a Kenyan guy who trains in New Mexico that was here for a summer.)

Anyway, good race, hope to meet you personally sometime.

Hey Jesse, I would love to meet you someday. I'm lucky I didn't get beat by your brother he came on a lot stronger than I realized there at the end and had the race been a little longer he may have cruised right on past me. Looks like you had a pretty good race yourself.
